Today marks the last day of our 2026 Summer Reading Program! Once again, thank you to all of the students who participated and to their families for supporting them and taking advantage of this wonderful opportunity. We had a fun and rewarding month and we are proud of you!
A special thank you to Mrs. Massey and Mrs. Levi for spending part of your summer investing your time and talents in our students. Your dedication is truly appreciated, and this program would not have been possible without you.

Today, our SRP students put their reading skills into action with a fun, hands-on activity! Students carefully read the directions to make chocolate ice cream in a bag, and then Mrs. Massey guided them through each step of the process. Mrs Levi and Ms Jacobs helped them set up their supplies. After all their hard work, everyone enjoyed the delicious treat they created themselves!
One word that many students found challenging was simultaneously. Several had difficulty reading or understanding its meaning, making it a great vocabulary word for us to discuss along with related synonyms such as at the same time, together, and concurrently.
Activities like this are a great reminder that building a strong vocabulary is one of the most important foundations of reading comprehension. The more words students know and understand, the more successful they become at making sense of what they read and following complex directions in both the classroom and everyday life.
One word that many students found challenging was simultaneously. Several had difficulty reading or understanding its meaning, making it a great vocabulary word for us to discuss along with related synonyms such as at the same time, together, and concurrently.

We are very thankful for the partnership and dedication of the families whose children are participating…making this program successful.
To finish this week, we joined the Summer Recreation Program for a field trip to our Clayton library, where students visited the “Wonders on Wheels: Museum on the Move” mobile museum and explored “The Art of Democracy in New Mexico” interactive exhibit. What a treat!
We are excited to finish our final week strong!
